"How is one prepare for the coming of the other?Is not the other,as other,the one for whome one is precisely not prepared?Does not preparation relieve the other of his or her or its alterity so that,if we are prepared,then what comes is not the other but the same,just what we were expecting? Would not extending true hospitality toward the other involve a certain unconditionality in which one is prepared for anything,which means that one is not prepared? Is the only adequate preparation for the coming of the other to confess that we cannot be prepared for what is coming? How then to be un/prepared,that is,prepared for advance of one for whom we could never be prepared?This aporia of the other,the paralysis of this impossible situation or fix,provides us with an insight into the exchange between hermeneutics and deconstruction and opens up the way to radicalize hermeneutics,which turns on the secret."
